A beloved part of our state's heritage is the access every Texan enjoys to some of the most magnificent, thriving wildlife populations found anywhere in the United States. A key contributor to this heritage has been the symbiotic relationship that exists among sportsmen, landowners and state government.
In order to preserve this legacy for future generations, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Wildlife Association worked together to develop the Texas Big Game Awards. The purpose of the Texas Big Game Awards is to promote awareness about wildlife management and the role that hunting plays in habitat conservation, and to foster cooperation among the stakeholders who ensure that our state's wildlife habitat is conserved forever.
Because 97% of the land in Texas is privately owned, encouraging landowners to actively manage their property for wildlife is the best way to guarantee that the habitat of all species, including the mule deer, remains an enduring part of our native ecosystem for generations to come.
Wildlife artist Mike Childress has created this limited edition 2004 print and notecard series with matching envelopes featuring the highest scoring antelope ever taken in Texas, scoring 89 2/8 B&C. The antelope was harvested by Linda McBride and it is the antelope in the background. The antelope in the foreground was taken by TWA member Dr. William Kyle during the 2002-2003 season and scored 84 4/8 B&C. Both antelopes were taken on the same ranch in Hudspeth County, located in the Trans-Pecos. Notecards come in sets of 25.
All proceeds benefit the Texas Big Game Awards and wildlife-oriented education activities for Texas youth.
This series of limited edition notecards was underwritten by Eastman Chemical Company.
